The Consensus Is In On Brain Training, But The Jury Is Not

The mess that has been created by the over-eager marketing of the brain training industry has resulted in a general skepticism regarding any efforts to develop tools to increase general cognitive functioning, an effort that makes perfect theoretical and practical sense from a psychological science point of view. In other words, all efforts may now be painted with the same brush. The brain training industry has made a proverbial rod for their own back.

But there is one important point on which I and people in my field would strongly disagree with the
consensus group. The point of disagreement speaks loudly to the hope of developing powerful brain training methods that fulfill all of the criteria suggested by the consensus group. Specifically, the signatories appeal in their article to the long standing assumption that improvement in a single training task type cannot lead to increases in a broad skill. For example, training in a particular type of memory task cannot improve all of memory. Training in one type of motor movement
cannot improve all forms of motor movement. This has indeed been generally observed.

13 Ways for parents and teachers to train an angry child to be calm.

13 Ways for parents and teachers to train an angry child to be calm.

Anger in a child may occur for many different reasons. It might stem from a condition like ADHD, ODD, anxiety, various different developmental difficulties or perhaps frustrations over experiencing
specific learning difficulties at school.

Psychologist Karen Webster Stratton reports that emotions are responses to situations in which people feel strongly. She further notes that these responses are felt on three levels: neurophysiological, behavioral, and cognitive. This means that there is a physical response in the person’s body as well as an intellectual understanding of what is happening. In addition, there is also an overt behavior exhibited as a result of the person’s response to the stimuli.  So your child’s responding may not be as simple as what you see on the outside. Your child may be responding to events on a single level or on all three levels.  Whichever is the case for your child, here are some top tips based on psychological research that will help you manage the situation when your child is angry and carry you through those times when parenting or teaching is far less joyful an experience.

How to Increase Intelligence

Children
and adults can increase or improve intelligence and science supports
the fact that there are no factors imposed by biology or birth that
constrains intelligence gains over ones life. Psychologists at NUIM
University have shown with published research that IQ can be raised (see
Cassidy, Roche & Hayes, 2011) and that the IQ increases have a
permanent effect (Roche, Cassidy &Stewart, 2013). Memory is also an
essential part of the brains intellectual functioning and that this too…See More

IQs were moved on average to 96, well within the average IQ range.

Furthermore, in follow up tests SMART Brain training was proven to have a lasting effect on alleviating ADHD within this study group. We work with kids, parents, teachers and psychologists to deliver our brain training intervention skills either in a classroom, clinical or home setting.
